I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE.

MERCY.

Sorry, we just fell out of our chair.

This is DDL, in Richmond, eating a steak.  They’re filming Lincoln here.  DDL has been in character the entire time and insists everyone address him as “Mister President.”   He is also walking with a limp (which is an affectation).

I’m always fascinated by actors who stay in character throughout a production. I can understand it on an intellectual level, and it must work well since so many actors do it. But I wonder how long I could take it in person, like if I were a camera operator or costume designer or did craft services. Or what if I were Daniel Day-Lewis’s wife? Would I have to act like Mary Todd whenever we were together?
I guess it depends on how far one takes the character. Addressing Lewis as Mr. President seems easy, but does he pretend like he doesn’t know what the internet is? Does he act like he’s afraid of cars, or of women wearing pants? I want answers.
